Atlantic Breast Cancer Net (ABCN) is a web- based community news and information portal. The site was developed to meet an information need for Atlantic Canadians affected by breast cancer. The site is designed to link and showcase Atlantic Canadian breast cancer web sites and online information. ABCN is not a network, although it does provide networking services through our informational newsletters, and article contacts.
ABCN was created, and is maintained, by Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia (BCANS) in consultation with interest groups from around the Province. All Atlantic Canadian Breast Cancer groups are invited to submit their resources, articles, sites and papers for inclusion. If you have any questions, or submissions, please contact our Editor – Barbara Thompson at: bcans@bcans.ca
Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia is a survivor-driven group formed in 1994. The women and men who make up BCANS are those who have been diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives or those who have had family members diagnosed with breast cancer. We’ve been there. At BCANS we will:
be there for you when you are diagnosed and feeling lost;
listen to your worries and concerns;
help you find information and resources;
guide you through your journey; and
provide you with opportunities to pay it forward and be a path finder for others.
We are united in our desire to change the legacy of breast cancer through peer-to-peer support, networking, education, advocacy and action.
The Adolescent Breast Health Initiative for Nova Scotia is a project of Breast Cancer Network Nova Scotia (a committee of Breast Cancer Action Nova Scotia) and funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada’s Cancer Program – Public Health Community Programming Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control. The Initiative targets girls from the ages of 16 to 18 and is being created from consultation with teen girls, healthcare providers and health related organizations/associations, Network Representatives, the BCANS Board of Directors, CancerCare Manitoba and The Pink Tulip Foundation.
